Your time will be split between learning on-the-job at our Bugle site, and attending external training in three six-week blocks throughout the year. This technical training is held at Birmingham Metropolitan College, where you’ll working towards your Level 3 qualification in Food and Drink Maintenance Engineering (we’ll cover your travel and accommodation costs).
You’ll be working with mechanical and electrical equipment plus highly automated programmable control systems. Depending on the type of product and plant in the company, engineering activities carried out will include:
Routine maintenance to optimise food and drink production levels
Fault finding and diagnosis, repairing and replacing components where necessary
Testing and commissioning to ensure operations/equipment are safe, efficient and legally compliant
The apprenticeship programme lasts approximately 4 years. You’ll be working 37.5 hours per week, Monday – Friday. Shifts are 7.5 hours per day from 7:30am – 4:00pm, with two 30 minute breaks.
As you progress through the apprenticeship programme your hours may be aligned to our patterns to ensure you gain operational experience.
We’re after self-motivated and enthusiastic people with a positive attitude to work. You’ll be confident working autonomously, taking responsibility for your own tasks and also working effectively within a team. In addition to this, we’re looking for:
5 GCSE qualifications at grade C or above, including Maths and English or equivalent (Maths must be grade B or above)
Science background would be an advantage
Strong communication skills with a pleasant telephone manner
Good literacy, numeracy and IT skills
Attentive listener with the ability to follow instructions
Punctual and reliable
