Danish Crown, part of the Danish Crown Group, is one of the largest producers of meat in the world. With over 125 years of industry expertise, we have a proud heritage which is reflected in the superior quality of our produce, and our investment in people. The Bugle site is a centre of excellence for de-boning pork legs and processing pork products, and has benefited from significant investment. We’re looking to recruit candidates to join our Butchery Apprentice scheme starting in February 2018.
You’ll be trained in a range of techniques to produce products which meet our consistently high standards. Your time will be split between working in a factory butchery environment and an external training provider. Daily duties will include:
Working on a training line, pace line or butcher’s blocks: trimming, making cuts and deboning pork products to required specifications
Experiencing a variety of environments, learning about the supply chain, processing, retail, and all elements of Health & Safety and Food Hygiene requirements
Learning all the necessary knife skills to produce quality cuts which maximise profitability from carcasses and reduce waste
Hours will initially be 37.5 hours per week from 8am – 4.30pm. As the programme develops, these hours will be aligned with the production hours of 6am – 3pm.
We're after people aged 18 and over. You’ll be enthusiastic about butchery with a desire to learn and complete the Apprentice programme, in addition to this we’re looking for:
A natural drive to deliver results in a fast paced environment
Ability to work at a consistently high pace dictated by line speed
Dexterous with good hand-eye coordination
Able to follow instructions and procedures accurately and consistently at all times
Work well in a team and surrounding teams
Aware of how you can make an impact in the community and affect the environment, supporting company initiatives
Pay starts at the national living wage of £7.50/hour. There will be opportunity for pay progression during the apprenticeship programme, with the aim to progress to a Level 3 Butcher.
If you’re looking for a highly skilled profession with excellent long-term career benefits, then don’t hesitate – apply now.
